The Stay-at-Homeschooling Mom Podcast
Education
What gets your homeschooling off track? After all, we lead busy, sometimes even chaotic lives! The bottom line is that there are many reasonable and legitimate reasons to put homeschooling aside or to do the bare minimum for a time.
In today’s podcast, Ginny and Mary Ellen check what will inevitably get you off track. But they will call you back on the way and roll in the right direction using their practical sensibilities, sweet humor, and genuine warmth.
Show Notes
The beauty of homeschooling is that, by its nature, it can deal with challenging times, even with the chaos, if that is what Our Lord presents us to make us better and stronger.
Here’s What to Do When You are Facing:
1. Illness
2. Moving
3. Job Loss
4. Care for relative
5. Outside Commitment
Simple Steps to Get Back on Track
1. Take stock of where each child is in each subject and begin there,
2. Write a week’s lessons for the main subjects, and leave the enrichment alone.
3. Plan a simple menu for the coming weeks using the crockpot and using leftovers (sandwiches, soups, salads).
4. Use grocery delivery or pick-up services.
5. Accept help. Ask for help. Pay for help (household help, tutoring help, driving help).
6. Put capable kids in charge of one chore and accept it won’t be perfect.
7. Meet with each child at the end of the week, assess their progress, and address any issues.
8. Relax; catching up is a process, not an event (John Clark quote),
