His live-in girlfriend, Reina Gonzales, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 22 years in prison in exchange for her testimony against him. The horrific abuse unfolded over several months in 2006... The couple locked Tyler and Ariana inside a small bedroom closet. While the couple heavily abused heroin, they initially fed the children only one sandwich a day before cutting off food entirely. The children were kept permanently in the dark closet without bathroom access. Autopsy reports later revealed that Ariana suffered a broken spine near the time of her death, alongside numerous healed broken ribs and a broken shoulder. Ariana died first from severe starvation and physical trauma. Christopher left her body in the closet with her brother Tyler, who was still alive. Tyler died approximately one week later. He then stuffed both children's bodies into plastic bags and stored them inside a large plastic container. He then rented a midtown Tucson storage unit and locked the container away. The crimes went unnoticed until February 2007, when the storage facility facility manager cleared out the locker due to non-payment. Ariana's decomposed remains were found inside. Tyler’s body was never recovered, and investigators believe he was discarded in a dumpster that was emptied into the Los Reales Landfill. The murders sparked severe public outcry when Arizona Child Protective Services records revealed that caseworkers had visited the home multiple times prior to the deaths but failed to uncover the extreme ongoing abuse.
