Transition Wild - Sportsmen’s Empire
Sports:Wilderness
Today my guest is John Ferkowicz who recently made the transition from whitetail guide to an elk guide, where he worked for an outfitter in Colorado during the 2019 archery season. John owns a food plot business and during his offseason, has been guiding whitetails in Illinois for the better part of a decade.
On today’s episode we cover why John wanted to try elk guiding, how he was able to land a job with an outfitter, and what it took to make it all came together. We also cover what guiding elk entails from working with clients, to day to day responsibilities, as well as his pay structure. We talk about the perks of the job, the challenges, and what certifications you need to become a licensed guide under an outfitter in Colorado. If you’re interested in becoming a guide yourself, this episode is for you!
