The specific pitfalls hit hard. Winter indoor practice with a launch monitor produces a swing built for the simulator, not the golf course. The launch monitor only knows where straight is relative to where it's set up. You can stand on your head and put a zero path number up if you aim right. The simulator's four walls do the aiming work for you. The 550-yard par 5 doesn't. And once you see a red number, the temptation is to contort your downswing to fix a symptom while the actual cause (setup, backswing sway, spine lean) sits untouched.
Shaun tells the story of the scratch golfer he grew up playing with who was a club champion. He sliced it all around the course, but he knew exactly what the ball was going to do every time. Give him a Trackman and tell him minus 8 path is bad, and he would never have broken 100 again.
The fix is a philosophy. Understand the tool's limitations. Understand how to use the tool. Then understand how to use the data. Attack the earliest thing in the swing that is broken. Get out of the parking lot before you worry about which street to turn down.
