Nitu Chandra Stands Her Ground in 'Never Back Down: Revolt' Available on Blu-ray and Digital Now from Sony Home Entertainment.
Nitu Chandra may not be an American household name yet, but internationally, she is recognized as a Taekwondo Champion, one of the faces of the NBA in India and renowned for her musicality and acting abilities.
Now, Chandra is getting recognized in more western films like her turn as trafficked pitfighter Jitu in 'Never Back Down: Revolt' available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital from Sony Home Entertainment.
Jitu is champion of this underground fighting ring run by the extremely wealthy who get their kicks off trafficking victims who most likely will not be missed or that local authorities will have little interest in fighting.
'Never Back Down: Revolt' is lead by a 90 percent female cast and was written Audrey Arkins in only her second full length feature film as well as directed by Kellie Madison, who is known for The Gate and The Tank.
We spoke with Chandra about her role at Jitu in 'Never Back Down: Revolt', her martial arts background, honoring her late father's memory through her artistic expression whether the martial or the musical ones and how South Asians are being recognized in more western films.
In this installment Never Back Down: Revolt, centers around Anya, a woman (Olivia Popica) who is kidnapped and forced to compete in an elite underground fight ring. She must battle her way out in order to regain her freedom. However, Janek (Bisping) and Mariah (Brooke Johnston) have other plans for the fighters they are trafficking. Rounding out the cast are Diana Hoyos (2020 Best Actress winner in Colombia for Enfermeras), Nitu Chandra (The Good Maharaja, Shooter), and James Faulkner (Atomic Blonde, Paul Apostle of Christ) who add to the intensified story telling a posterior kicking action.
