This was recorded on a stormy autumn day at Shastine Crater on the south flank of the Medicine Lake Volcano, a large shield volcano in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Siskiyou County, California. The rainfall dripped from the over hanging rim of the small volcanic spatter cone under which the microphone was placed, while strong and gusty winds blew through nearby fir and pine trees.
