investigate DNA’s ‘dark matter’

DeepMind’s AlphaGenome AI model could help solve the problem of predicting how variations in noncoding DNA shape gene expression

正文：DNA is the blueprint for life, influencing our health. We know that our genes, the genetic “words” that encode proteins, play a major role in health and disease. But more than 98 percent of our genome consists of DNA that doesn’t build proteins. Once disregarded as “junk DNA,” scientists now know that this molecular dark matter is crucial for determining gene activity in ways that keep us healthy—or cause disease.

• A single gene can encode multiple proteins through alternative splicing. 单个基因可通过可变剪接编码多种蛋白质。
