Our next three episodes will sound a little different as we hand the reigns over and begin our In-Conversation series for NAIDOC week.
In this episode, Simone Sexton, our Indigenous Inclusion Consultant, will be having a yarn with Steve Fordham a proud Kamilaroi man as well as the founder and Managing Director of Blackrock Industries, a 100% Indigenous-owned business.
From a mere 5 years of age, Steve knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur. He wanted to shape voices, be innovative and create meaningful and systemic change. He wanted to make a difference, to help his mob, help families grow together and not fracture and fall apart, a piece of the systemic problems that are faced in communities today
Steve also developed the ‘Second Chance for Change’ program with co-founder Robbie, which works with incarcerated Indigenous men, to help them rehabilitate through training, skills and education. To date they have rehabilitated 111 men and have provided countless other opportunities for Our mob to seek employment. which he talks more to Simone about. They help reintegrate people back into their community without the need to reoffend. Through Blackrock & Blackroo, they help them find housing, employment, and a sense of belonging, which is a crux of why they find problems in the first instance. Working with them on a day to day basis, Steve ensures that they do not reoffend. This is what has become Steve’s passion.
You will also hear Steve talk about NAIDOC week and the fact that this isn’t just for and Aboriginal people, this is about Australian culture.
