In this episode, we’ll explore the rise of humanism during Henry VII’s reign and its influence on English culture. We’ll discuss how Henry VII encouraged this movement by attracting Italian scholars, supporting the arts, and promoting education. Humanist thinkers, such as Erasmus, criticised Church corruption and sought educational reform. The printing press helped spread these ideas, increasing literacy among the elite. We’ll also look at Henry’s patronage of poetry, music, and architecture, seen in projects like Richmond Palace and Westminster Abbey’s chapel.
