On the night of the 24th of August 1996, a 14-year-old girl left a housing estate in a small Scottish town and walked alone toward a river in the dark. The investigation into what happened to her would remain unsolved for 27 years, sustained by one mother's refusal to stop asking, and finally cracked by the memory of a four-year-old boy.
