Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus says scrapping the Mercosur trade deal would be good for the environment and good for Ireland.
The controversial pact allows for an additional 99 thousand tonnes of South American beef to be imported into the EU levy-free.
Concerns have been raised in Ireland about the impact it would have on the Irish beef industry.
However, opposition to the deal has been growing due to deforestation in the Amazon.
Chris MacManus says MEPs in the European Parliament took a tougher stance this week
