In this episode, we hear from Mavis Millar – author, mathematician, sailor and Salvationist soldier for 71 years. Born in 1932, Mavis’ love of numbers translated into her studying to be a statistician in the 1950’s as one of only two women in her class. Balancing family life and a 200 strong children’s ministry, Mavis then gained her Ocean Master’s license and has sailed one hundred times across the Cook Strait. She has navigated the entirety of New Zealand, praying from port to port as she went, and speaks with passion about The Salvation Army as a place where she has been called to mission and to be present in community.
