"If you're not careful and no-clip out of reality in wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms..."
These words appeared at the beginning of a paragraph on the 4Chan website back in May of 2019 describing a picture of an empty office space. Since that day The Backrooms have become a popular subject among fans of internet horror.
However, the development of the Backrooms has not been the work of a single person. Wiki users have submitted hundreds of levels, programmers have created video games based on the Backrooms, YouTube creators have made videos about this place, and (shameless self promotion) the host of this podcast and a friend of his wrote a table top role playing game called Caught in the Backrooms.
Which you really should check out at www.caughtinthebackrooms.com
In this episode we'll take a look at the development of the Backrooms and why, in my opinion, it can be considered a work of modern folklore.
