Today we begin three months in the book of 1 and 2 Timothy. Paul writes this letter to Timothy as the church at Ephesus is in turmoil only four years after his departure. Paul could have offered a lot of pragmatic recommendations, but instead, he begins his letter by exhorting them to guard the gospel, and to remove anything (and anyone) who distracts from it.
