EU proposals to control pollution from industrial activities “could have a fundamental impact on the viability of farms”.
That’s the warning from Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher. He was referring to the EU Industrial Emissions Directive which sets the rules for the prevention and control of pollution from industrial activities. Last April the European Commission proposed a revision of the Directive to fit with the goals of the European Green Deal.
But Billy Kelleher says the changes could mean stringent regulations and extra costs for a range of farming activities including the poultry, pork and dairy sector.
