Coati Mundi - I Say Hey! (1983) Coati Mundi (Andy Hernandez) was the energetic sideman and co-creator of Kid Creole and the Coconuts (who will be featured in a future show). When I watch early live videos of KC, it seems to me that maybe, imperceptibly, something of a deep chasm befell this perfect plan when Lori Eastside and her wild energy were "excommunicated". I don't know. All I know is that they continued for a while, and eventually Mundi and August Darnell split. I have a lot to say about my theory, another time. I love this song, which Lori Eastside DOES appear on. Maybe Coati will tell me someday.
Dragon Sound - Friends (1987) That sound you hear in the background is off-beat clapping. Plus some very poor movie dialog. You HAVE to see this movie.
Gerald Nelson - Dominique My Bull (1965?) Pretty rapey song ultimately sung by Elvis. There's a whole album, "Songs I Wrote For Elvis". Literally true. Elvis used to listen to these acetates and chuck 'em against the wall when he was frustrated with what even HE could recognize as crappy, lazy songwriting. Still, I'm talking about his songs, not he mine.
Gerald Nelson - The Chicken Scratch (1965?) "Baby, you're the chicken for my chicken pen."
Gerald Nelson - The Love Machine (1965?) The songwriters of Elvis acetates sure must have pegged Elvis as a very aggressive suitor, let's say.
Gerald Nelson - Yoga Is As Yoga Does (1965?)
Miracles - Love Machine (Instrumental Version) (1975) This is the instrumental version of the #1 song by The Miracles. What a song! Everything in a mid-'70s soul stomper, including elegant strings. This and the following track of the show were parts of a 1975 concept album about Los Angeles that no one talks about, due to the single's overwhelming monster success. Sort of like Tommy James' Christian of the World and "Draggin' The Line". Crazy clavinet playing!!
Smokey Robinson and The Miracles had one #1 song. "Tears Of A Clown".
The Miracles without Smokey Robinson had one #1 song. "Love Machine".
Smokey Robinson never had a #1 song.
Miracles - Overture-City Of Angels Medley (1975)
Dennis Wilson - My Love Lives On (1977)
Robert Lee - The Ballad Of Bruce Lee (1974) Robert Lee was Bruce's brother and this pretty good song was his tribute.
Rocky & Friends - Read Along Book & Record (1977) This is a read-along book based on the Sylvester Stallone movie of the same name.
Skatt Brothers - Oh, Those Girls (1981) After forming in California in 1979 (though originally from Ontario Canada), Sean Delaney’s Skatt Brothers were immediately compared to the Village People until they later returned to their more rockish roots with the release of their second album "Rico & The Ravens", which was released in Australia only.
Skatt Brothers - Life At The Outpost (1979) Skatt Bros. founding band member Sean Delaney was a musician, producer, road manager, and songwriter and who co-wrote songs with each member of KISS way back in the '70s through the '80s and helped with makeup and choreography as well. Sean and Bill Aucoin (KISS' manager) were best friends and roommates for 11 years. SEE THE VIDEO HERE FOR CHRISSAKES. Here's a shorter, cleaner version.
Skatt Brothers - Walk The Night (1979) Note the Casablanca Records logo.
The Beach Boys w/Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - East Meets West (1984)
The Beach Boys w/Little Richard - Happy Endings (1987) From the movie "The Telephone".
The Telephone is a 1988 comedy-drama film written by Terry Southern and Harry Nilsson and directed by Rip Torn, in what was to be the only film he directed.
The film stars Whoopi Goldberg as an out-of-work actress who starts doing some prank phone calls which creates a chain of events. The entirety of the film is set in the main character's apartment and features few actors other than Goldberg. Elliott Gould and John Heard appear in supporting roles.
The film was released on January 22, 1988 to negative critical reception and poor box office. Gosh, Whoopi Goldberg improvising while a surly Rip Torn looks on with a disapproving scowl. What's NOT to like?
Synopsis:
Vashti Blue is an out-of-work actress who we watch make a series of prank calls throughout the night, that causes a chain of events. She is eventually revealed as being medically unstable, as a telephone contractor turns up to her home to confiscate the handset due to arrears with her phone bill. It is revealed that her telephone line was disconnected some time ago, much to her denial. As he struggles to take the handset, she strikes him in the head and stabs him with a knife. AND SCENE!
Unhappy with Torn's editing of the film, Goldberg filed a $5 million lawsuit against New World Pictures and Torn to prevent its release, but she lost. And you've never heard of it! But...this song is in it.

Godley & Creme - Group Life (1978)
Ray Conniff - Hey Jude (1969)
James Brown - Boy Scouts Public Service
John Fred And His Playboy Band - Back In The U.S.S.R. (1970) Their big hit was "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)".
Steve Walsh - Just How It Feels (1980) I actually like ex-Kansas lead singer Steve Walsh's solo album Schemer Dreamer from 1980. As silly as the cover is, and it's very silly, there is some high-quality stuff here. This track is my favorite. According to one YouTube user: Steve was on tour with Kansas when this album was released. Kerry (Livgren) released a solo album that year, as well. So, Steve & Kerry decided to do one song each, live, in honor of no tour being attached to the albums. It was way back in 1980. The “Audio-Visions” tour. The concert has been uploaded to YouTube for a while now.
