On Dec 2, the Fourth Annual Wholly Kicks Santa in the Park event will give away 1000 pair of kicks! We got the pleasure of interviewing Tyg Taylor and learning more about this great event. We wanted to share this beautiful story with you as we start the holiday season. If you'd like to help out, you can donate at whollykicks.org.
Wholly Kicks is a non-profit organization whose presence in Aurora, Colorado, and the Denver Metro area, exists for the purpose of “walking with” those in impoverished areas or those at risk of or, experiencing homelessness. Through the distribution of new shoes and socks, the focus of Wholly Kicks is to mentor and build relationships in “walking with” individuals experiencing economic disparity.
///
Tyg”er” Taylor who is the Founder and Executive Director of Wholly Kicks. Tyg founded Wholly Kicks in November 2018 after a curious conversation in an alley with a man wearing a bowtie who reflected with him about what it means to walk in the shoes life has given to you…
Tyg grew up in Steamboat Springs, attended Colorado State University and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in the Bay Area, before landing in Monument, CO for 28 years as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. During his time in Monument, Tyg spent many years working amongst those experiencing homelessness in Colorado Springs. Tyg’s experiences of visiting homeless camps, hanging out in the park and at low rent motels, learning the systems and culture of homelessness, creating friendships and developing leaders amongst the community of those living outdoors and on the street, led to the vision of moving to North Aurora to work as a street pastor along Colfax, working with other non-profits, and the development of Wholly Kicks. Wholly Kicks asks the question: Who You Walking With?
Tyg loves spending time on the street in North Aurora and East Denver, meeting new faces and kindling relationships with those whom he has met over the years. Tyg’s greatest joy of leading Wholly Kicks is creating leaders right from those experiencing homelessness, to run new shoe events! Tyg sees his life as a mission to Walk With Others: using his heart, his experience and relationships, his truck and resources, his boldness and trust, his limitations and possibilities, to live a life that serves and loves others.
