Episode 177 features Chris Wren of Bridge Nine Records out of Beverly, Massachusetts. Chris has been putting out records in the DIY scene for over 25 years. In 1995 he started his Record label and has had a dozen releases on Billboard’s Independent, Heatseekers, and Top 200 charts-all the while remaining firmly true to the original spirit from which the label started. Having grown up in Connecticut in the 90's, which was a hotspot for hardcore, Wrenn had his finger on the pulse of the underground music scene and wanted to find a way to help bands reach a larger audience. With over 300 releases to their credit so far, I’d say Chris has succeeded. He’s also had some of the biggest names in hardcore on his roster including my personal favorite Agnostic Front. His business has survived almost 2 decades and recently opened a store front in their hometown. So I wanted to get him on the show to talk about. If you’re listening in from the Boston area definitely go check it out. In our conversation we talked about the origins of the store, DIY culture, skateboarding, and some of the artists that Chris has worked with. So whether you are friends of fans of the Bridge Nine, I hope you enjoy the “behind the label” interview. I featured a Bridge Nine artist by the name of “Roll Call” at Chris’s suggestion. They are an NYC hardcore band. Thanks for listening and supporting local music.
