Today's guest hosts are Edwith Theogene and Charlotte Hancock, Organizing Director and Communications Director for Generation Progress.
They discuss the recent COP26 climate conference that just occurred. From October 31st to November 16th, world leaders, climate policy experts, and advocates gathered in Glasgow, Scotland for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference to confront the global threat that the climate crisis presents and continue to work to chart a path forward. With so many priorities and perspectives represented at one event, there were a lot of differing thoughts presented on the best way to confront this problem, and some activists—particularly young activists—were vocal in their belief that the conference’s approach to addressing the climate crisis is insufficient and does not match the scope and urgency of the issue.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., progress has been made on both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and the 'Build Back Better Act', which each contain provisions to combat the climate crisis. The infrastructure bill was signed into law by President Biden on Monday, and Congress is slated to pass the 'Build Back Better Act' in the coming weeks.
To talk more with Edwith and Charlotte about COP26, and what comes next in the movement to end the climate crisis, they’re joined by two of their colleagues who spent the past few weeks in Scotland attending COP26.
They are Hannah Malus, the deputy director of energy and environment advocacy at the Center for American Progress, and Chris Chyung, the campaign manager of 'the State House to the White House' initiative at the Center for American Progress.
