Ray Jefferson Smith, age 88 of Sanford, died Tuesday, (11/7/2017) at his home. He was born in Harnett County, son of the late Allie Prentiss Smith and Lorena Rambeaut Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers James Lee Smith, Gene Smith and his great granddaughter, Chloe Leslie. He was a member of the Spring Hill United Methodist Church and was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and cook. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Dr. Jerome Smith and Rev. Brad Marona officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving is his wife Claudia Roberts Smith of the home. Daughters, Sharon Rose Fields and husband Jimmy of Carthage, NC, Raynelle Allred of Robbins, NC, Sylvia Darline Ratliff of Sanford, NC and Janet Lynn Smith of Sanford, NC. Sisters Peggy Spencer and husband Bill of Smithfield, NC and Pauline Godwin and husband Al of Charlotte, NC. Brothers, Mike Smith and wife Blanche of Angier, NC and Fred Smith of Angier, NC. Twelve grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 1-2pm Saturday at the Spring Hill United Methodist Church.
