The EU’s energy windfall will benefit Irish households and businesses – that’s according to a Dublin MEP. In a speech in Strasbourg this morning the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that a plan to skim excessive profits from energy companies should bring in €140 billion. It will be up to governments to decide how that money is distributed. Fianna Fáil MEP, Barry Andrews, was in the chamber for the speech. He says he expects Ireland’s share of the EU cash to go into energy credits for households and businesses.
