We continued our Black History Month tribute series with this episode. We had Leslie Burnett and Lynisha Batson, President and Vice President of Seattle University School of Law's Women of Color Coalition (WOCC) on the podcast to talk about their experiences.
Leslie (she/her) is a 1L (Sect. D) with a focus on criminal justice reform and immigration. Leslie is a part of the Access to Justice Institute as a First-Year fellow and the Public Interest Legal Fund as a First-Year Representative. Prior to law school, Leslie worked for King County's Department of Public Defense, after graduating from SU for undergrad. Leslie's goal in founding the Womxn of Color Coalition (WOCC), is to create an inviting space for womxn of color, where they feel safe sharing their law school experiences. WOCC's goal is to provide a support network for womxn of color at SU Law, and to bring issues we face as womxn of color to the administration to garner change in our school's culture and understanding of intersectionality.
Lynisha (she/her) is a 1L (Sect.D) with a focus on privacy law and intellectual property. Lynisha is part of several organizations including the Intellectual Property Law Society, Black Law Student Association, Space Law Society, Privacy Law Student Association, Artificial Intelligence Law Society, and International Law Society. She works with the WSBA Privacy Committee as their Law Student Liason. Prior to law school, Lynisha obtained her master's degree in Public Administration from Georgia State University. As the Vice President of the Womxn of Color Coalition, Lynisha is dedicated to creating safe spaces and providing resources to those that identify as women of color and allies.
