On Thursday, June 24, 2021, Champlain Towers South, a 12 story residential condominium in the Miami suburb of Surfside, Florida collapsed killing 98 people. The incident is one of the greatest losses of life caused by a construction failure in the history of the United States. There are numerous questions about what happened and why. Understandably, the matter is now the subject of extensive litigation. One fact that is known is that the structure met all applicable building codes in effect when the construction was completed.
