Her story is too rich to tell in one episode – so here’s the second of two episodes featuring Kate Toyer, BVSc, MANZCVS (Surgery), veterinary surgeon, feminist, and president of Australian Rainbow Veterinarians and Allies (ARVA). Right off the bat in this hour, she weighs in on why so many people allow fear to drive their attitudes towards the trans and gender diverse community: “Just by being in the room, a trans person challenges everything you thought you knew... every single piece of the way society is built.” And with LGBTQIA+ rights under attack in over half of the United States alone, that fear can be life-threatening to people who, in Kate’s words, are “literally just trying to exist.”
