The EU needs to intensify the fight against criminal networks trading in human life. That’s the warning from the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
During an address to the European Parliament this afternoon, President von der Leyen said the EU must urgently address the situation in the Central Mediterranean. She told MEPs, migratory pressure has “increased significantly, and all too often tragically at the expense of human life.”
The Commission will propose both legal and operational actions to tackle illegal migration at next week’s European council meeting.
