Public Order Policing is the use of police authority and capacity to establish a legitimate equilibrium between governmental and societal, collective and individual, rights and interests in a mass demonstration of grievance.
Generally speaking, this means to prevent crimes which involve acts that interfere with the operations of society and the ability of people to function efficiently.
Public Order Units can be utilized in a variety of tactical postures and are usually deployed for crowd control, specifically to supervise, prevent and/or control riots, protests, and large public gatherings.
Sgt. Darwin Tetreault is a 19-year veteran with the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and currently serves in a leading role for the National Public Order Program. His experience includes general patrol, criminal intelligence, training and supervision, overseas high threat environments, traffic, counter-terrorism, search, disaster response, and public order.
In 2011, Sgt. Tetreault deployed with the NATO Training Mission to Kabul, Afghanistan. He was responsible for developing and modifying training for the ANP (Afghan National Police) Non-commissioned Officers Cadre, Crowd & Riot Control, and Special Police Tactical Units.
