There are a ton of Fifty Shades of Grey reviews out there, and I'll tell you this is not one of them. What it is, however, is a review of the not-so sound advice I recently read which happen to come from a review of Fifty Shades of Grey, interestingly enough.
I could care less about the movie, but what I do care about is the message we give to people about life lessons.
When your message is essentially: "Do as I say, not as I do", are you being a warning of what not to do, or examples of what to do in life
Well, this topic was sparked by a very popular blog post, which I'll be VERY clear from the start, the writer's message was beautiful and important. Her delivery however, is something I'd like to give feedback on for you to learn and grow from.
Here is the specific opener I'm encouraging you to learn from, highlighted in red are examples I'll be discussing in today's JRCtv epsiode:
"Tonight, I succumbed to peer pressure (exactly what I caution you NEVER to do) and went with a bunch of girlfriends to see Fifty Shades of Grey. I ignored the little voice in my head that implored me to just say “no!” because, after all, it’s just a silly movie, right? Well, I wish I had done as I always tell you to do and given that voice credit because it was right. The thing is, I’m also kind of glad I didn’t because now I have these words for you."
I especially wanted to discuss this topic with you, not specifically because of this blog post, more so because I hear and see people "sending mixed messages" so often these days. It leaves people unaccountable for their actions and confuses the younger generation.
Again, I completely respect her core message about what real love is later in the blog post. However, if we expect anyone to truly listen to our guidance we must understand when we send mixed messages we end up simply discrediting all the great advice we are giving.
Here's a little bullet list of the problems I'll discuss in today's video and how to over come them in the download to go along with today's post:
These are the main problems I see. Though the rest of the message is valuable, the stage is kind of set by saying "though I don't take my own advice or hold myself truly accountable, you should"
Now if that's not confusing, I don't know what is.
If we expect the be the best versions of ourselves..
If we expect to make the world a better place…
If we expect to be an incredibly positive role model in anyone's life, especially your own children…
Then, it's best we truly live the practice what we preach.
It's best we are the greatest examples of how to live a happy, loving and fulfilling life and that good advice is not "do as I say, not as I do" but instead "Do as I do because there's no better example of how to love, live, and give."
If we expect to make a meaningful and lasting impression on anyone we must "LIVE IT!".
