Nevada is the only state in America where women make up the majority in the state legislature. That means that 49 other states are majority male. In addition, Nevada has two women representing the state in the US Senate.
Newly elected Assemblywoman Sarah Peters is one of the women making up this history majority. In addition to discussing how having women in the majority affects policy making, Sarah talks about her own motivations for running and other stereotypes she is helping to change in her state and beyond. Assemblywoman Peters is an accomplished environmental engineer who saw a need to address environmental issues and climate change in state politics. She is also a young mother of three who is setting an example for her children and is also cognizant of the example she is helping to set for the country as a whole.
Listen and share this podcast to hear about a new approach to policy making, how Sarah came to the decision to run and how she prepared to run for office, and why YOU should look within yourself for your own reasons to run for office too.
