In at least nine out of ten cases where journalists are murdered, the killers go unpunished. All over the world, criminals and authoritarian forces are silencing independent media with violence, while facing virtually no consequences, which in turn triggers more attacks and forces critical journalists to censor themselves. Ultimately, this impunity aims to silence journalists and prevent information from reaching the public.
