Writing and literature podcasts

The universe is a mystery, and "we need mystery," according to Saul Indian Horse's grandmother. In this lecture for East and West Learning Connections I talk about the poetry and politics of the novel Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. I cover topics of love, trauma, indigenous experiences at residential schools, memoir, ice hockey, and the importance of brotherhood and community. For more information about residential schools and their survivors, please visit the Where are the Children website. In the lecture I also mention two CBC interviews with Richard Wagamese, one with Candy Palmater in 2016 ("How a library helped Richard Wagamese become a writer") and one with Shelagh Rogers in 2012 ("Richard Wagamese on his novel Indian Horse"). These are available on the CBC website.
This lecture was made possible by East and West Learning Connections: http://www.eawlc.org. It was given live on zoom on May 11, 2022.
