The Taoiseach and the President of the European Parliament, jointly unveiled a new statue of the late SDLP leader John Hume in the European Parliament in Strasbourg this evening.
The bronze bust which is one of four, was donated to the Parliament by the Irish government. It was created by Irish sculptor and artist Liz O’Kane who is originally from Northern Ireland but is based in Dublin.
The statue will be permanently displayed in the European Parliament. Its presence there marks the extraordinary legacy of John Hume who was an MEP for twenty five years.
Karen Coleman, Editor of EuroParlRadio, talked with Liz O’Kane about her work on the statue and what it means to have it permanently on display in the Parliament.
