A Midlands North-West MEP is lobbying for Knock Airport to be exempt from EU funding limits. Ireland West wants to build a new business campus at the airport. The plans include an industrial hub as well as a hotel, with the hope of many new jobs. EU rules usually limit the proportion of cash that can come from the state. But Sinn Fein MEP, Chris MacManus, has asked the European Commission for an exemption. He says following covid and Brexit, the airport has had a tough time and should get a full injection in government money.
