In this episode of Latinx Visions, we will be discussing the female representation in the Netflix-turned-PopTV (and then CBS) television series, One Day at a Time. As part of that discussion we will be taking a look at current Latinx debates that are connected to the show. We will then analyze the three central female characters in the show: Lydia, Penelope, and Elena, as well as consider the importance of female, Cuban-American showrunner Gloria Calderón-Kellett on the creation and execution of this show. Finally, we’ll wrap up with a few recommendations of other Latinx television shows that highlight female characters.
