In 2019, Bethany Hallam shook up local politics by running for and winning a seat on Allegheny County Council. Before that though, Bethany's personal struggles with opioids gave her a unique perspective on the criminal justice, inadequacies in the county health programs, and the great imbalances of power for people of color and people without money. Now that she has been sworn into office, Bethany is ready and eager to use her voice to highlight these issues, push for reforms, and encourage others, especially other young people and women, to run for office and challenge the status quo.
