The Skeleton March and the Battle of Quebec /// 109

Jan 18th, 2026 8:39 PM

In the spring of 1775, 1,000 Americans entered the western wilds of Maine and pushed overland to the very edge of modern-day Quebec. The trip was supposed to take three weeks. It took nearly triple that. Then the winter came. The Americans froze. They ate their own shoes. They ate green dog soup. And the wild animals ate them – and all of this took place on the overland death march before the epic battle of Quebec even began. The half-starved madmen who survived the hellish march shook their heads in disbelief as the thirty-foot-tall walls of Quebec City greeted their tired eyes. Then the blizzard came. A man couldn’t see ten feet in front of himself. A man couldn’t even see his own feet. It was in this Siberian hell that the Americans attacked. This is the story of unspeakable pain. This is the story of mass starvation. This is the story of The Skeleton March. It’s all here and it’s all free on Battlecast – the world’s foremost podcast on war and its sociopolitical impact. This is part three of an ongoing military history of the American Revolution. You can find episode two here and episode one here. A Military History of the American Revolution: Bunker Hill /// 108

Dec 18th, 2025 12:38 AM

Bunker Hill was one of the most important battles of the American Revolution. In this struggle, Britain attempted to break out of Boston, suffering some of the worst casualties incurred by the English in the entire war. At the same, General George Washington, in command of tens of thousands of unruly New England militia, sought to keep the British bottled up. Veteran redcoats attacked the American earthen redoubt near Boston; their total naval supremacy turning the nearby town of Charlestown into a smoking desolation, a second Sodom. And the burning of the city turned the air itself black, choked the fighters with heated clouds of sulfurous gasses. This is the story of that apocalyptic battle. This is the story of the Battle of Bunker Hill. It’s all here and it’s all free on Battlecast. The world’s foremost podcast on war and its sociopolitical impact. The Shot Heard Round the World: Lexington and Concord

Nov 16th, 2025 5:16 PM

Before The Battle of Lexington and Concord many thoughtful commentators, in both England and the American colonies, thought peace was possible between the colonies and the mother country. When they woke up on April 19, 1775, the men were at peace. When they laid their heads down that night, millions of people, across the greatest Empire in world history, were at war. Thousands would be wounded. Boston would be besieged for more than a year. New York City would be threatened. This is the story of that day and the “shot heard round the world.” It’s all here and it’s all free on this extensive military history of The American Revolution. Cannibal Holocaust: The Guangxi Massacre /// 106

Oct 18th, 2025 3:32 AM

The Guangxi Massacre was the largest documented case of mass cannibalism in human history. The Guangxi culinary abomination took place between 1967 and 1968 in Guangxi, China, a province located directly to the north of North Vietnam. Accordingly, the cannibalistic incident illustrates basic concepts of geopolitics and the way geography, lines of communication, and strategy intersect with social change and religion. Put succinctly, the Guangxi cannibal holocaust demonstrates how culture and strategy impact one another. The incident was part of a Civil War which took place in China during the 1960s, a conflict in which millions of human beings died and hundreds, perhaps thousands, were eaten by their fellow citizens. This is the story of that mass cannibalism. It’s all here and it’s all free on Battlecast, the world’s foremost podcast on war and its sociopolitical impact. The Definitive Military History of Monaco and Monte Carlo

Sep 19th, 2025 9:45 PM

Monaco is a nation smaller than one square mile but filled with more wealth per capita than almost any other country in the world. According to one historian, the tiny principality has zero natural resources. However, there is one resource Monaco does possess: The Rock – an impregnable natural fortress jutting into the azure water lanes of the Mediterranean sea. It was this natural fortification and its accompanying port that laid the foundation of Monaco’s abnormally persistent sovereignty. Put succinctly, Monaco has a history steeped in warfare, assassinations, and conflict. This is the definitive story of that conflict. It’s all here and it’s all free on Battlecast – the world’s foremost podcast on war and its sociopolitical impact.
