Father Daughter talk about Domestic violence

Jan 30th, 2021 4:04 PM

This is an audio transcription with speaker detection in which Carl G is having a conversation with his daughter about the NFL player that has been accused of choking his girlfriend. His daughter has experience in dealing with domestic violence and she shares her knowledge with him. She explains that money doesn't necessarily influence whether or not a woman stays with an abuser, as there are often other factors at play such as isolation from friends and family, and being financially dependent on the abuser. Carl G then mentions the possibility of women's shelters, and his daughter explains that while they can be a safe place, in the age of technology it's not always easy for a woman to leave. She also explains the term 'love is blind', where people may overlook negative aspects of a person when they are in the honeymoon phase. Carl G then suggests that men need to be aware of the signs of abuse and talk about it, and his daughter agrees, adding that generational teaching of what is acceptable is also important. Finally, Carl G and his daughter talk about the rise of domestic violence during the pandemic, and he encourages listeners to come back next week to discuss this further.
