"Asian Girls Are Just Freaky": Being An Asian Woman In America

Mar 22nd, 2021 3:15 PM

Today's episode isn't part of The COVID Series, but COVID is part of the topic. After a year of anti-Asian rhetoric and a drastic spike in anti-Asian hate crimes came the murders in Atlanta, Georgia on March 17. A white man killed eight people, including six women of Asian descent. But, racism against Asians didn't start last March. So in this episode, you'll hear from Mei Marks, a Chinese-American woman who grew up in an all-white family and in mostly white communities. On Life, Death, And Honesty: My Nana, Abigail Thomas

Mar 8th, 2021 1:10 PM

Today is International Women's Day, so I sat down with my grandmother, Abigail Thomas. She is a celebrated author of three memoirs, mother of four children, and grandmother of twelve. She was kicked out of Bryn Mawr her freshman year after becoming pregnant with her first daughter. She talked with me about sex, love, death, raising children, bad marriages, good marriages, and womanhood. She doesn't think she's very wise, but I learned a lot from this conversation, and I hope you do, too. Thanks for listening.
