Some Sh**ty Stories
Send us a text Krysti leads off with the tale of Clipperton Island. This island is now the home to poisonous crabs and that’s about it. This island was “owned” by many countries by the end of its saga. This island was the source of mass amounts of guano which was in high demand for fertilizer. There were fights between countries over this itty bitty island. This led to Mexico claiming the island and leaving a contingent of folks to guard it. These settlers get stuck due to things like WWI and the Mexican Revolution. This also prevented the supply ships from coming. All the things proceed to go wrong and bat shit crazy is a term for a reason. This island is now a French island. Tori takes us to Edinburgh Castle. This castle has been in use since AD 638. This castle has been a source of conflict between the English and the Scottish. The Scots did retain it and is home to the Lia Fail and the Honours of Scotland. This castle has been the home to kings, queens, sheriffs, and soldiers. The castle itself is made of limestone, we’ve talked about limestone and stone tape theory before. And guess what? This sucker is haunted with many ghosts. How Do Your Scream Without a H...
Send us a textTori leads off with King’s Chapel Burying Grounds. This is the oldest cemetery in Boston and has some disturbing tales that go along with it. Krys regales us with the Matamoros Cult killings in the late 80’s. This was a jurisdictional nightmare due to this being on the border between the US and Mexico. This cult was present and caused all sorts of chaos in Mexico in the 80s. This cult mixed both drug running and religious belief. The head of this cult was bribing the authorities to look the other way for the drug running and then told his followers that he was making them invisible. As you can imagine, this ended badly. Krys tells us of the Red Onion Saloon in Alaska. This is still standing in Skagway to this day. This saloon is still in operation at this point but the brothel part of the business is now a museum. Not shocking…it’s haunted. Battle Weary Orphans
Send us a textKrys tells of the Gettysburg Orphanage. This was started due to a picture of a family of a perished soldier in the area. Sergeant Amos Hurniston was the soldier that started this by dying with the picture of his fam. The orphanage was built to house the orphans of Union soldiers. While this began as a noble idea, this soon turned into something more sinister. Yeah, not good and a breeding ground for ghosts. Tori takes us to another battlefield, Yorktown. Seemed like it was time for Revolutionary War battlefields. This was the most well known as the last land battle of the Revolutionary War. This was a siege that finally gave the US its independence. Fun fact, The World Turned Upside Down is an actual British drinking song and not just a Hamilton reference. You want ghosts, they got ghosts. The Al Dente Episode
Send us a textTori leads off with the Capuchin Crypt in Rome. The monks used the bones to make works of art throughout the Crypt and the chapels therein. The next one was the Palermo Capuchin Crypt. This one is even creepier because the whole place is full of mummies. You heard me right, mummies. This was apparently a very big status symbol to be a mummy interred in the crypt. Guess what y’all, there are ghosts and they like hanging out with prettiest mummy in the world. Krys tells us of the Witches Village. This site has striking parallels with Salem in the States. This was yet another story about demonizing women. This strife ended up pitting villagers against their neighbors. Triora stands to this day and they embrace history both bad and good. Tori comes back with the island of Poveglia. Now you want ghosts, all of these places are how you get ghosts. ‘Nough said…Our Sources: romesite.com, palermocatacombs.com, walksofitaly.com, atlasobscura.com, littlehouseofhorrors.com, sightseeing-experience.com, italy-trails.com, agriturismolegrandole.com, thegrandwinetour.com, beautifulliguria.comOur theme music: Camille Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre - Busy Strings by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License.Support our show on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/trendylobotomypodcast Find us at FB/Instagram @TrendyLobotomyPod as well as our blog trendylobotomypodcast.blogspot.com Support the show
Friendly and Tortured Ghosts
Send us a textKrys opens us up with tale of Jekyll Island Club Resort. This island off the coast of Georgia and has one hell of a history. Many huge names frequented the island and there are stories that abound of their time in both the past and present of the island. You want ghosts? Tori shows up to the party armed with three different cemeteries. The Granary Burying Ground, Nashville City Cemetery, and Copp’s Hill Burying Grounds. The former and later of those three are both in Boston and have direct ties to the Revolutionary Wars. Nashville City Cemetery was a ground breaking cemetery that was not segregated.
