We are a monthly Mother-Daughter True Crime Podcast. Each month we will focus on a case that cries out to us. What brings an individual to the precipice of darkness? Can we make sense of societies darkest edges? Sometimes we share generationally opposing views or push our own minds to that edge, but we do this to bring souls into remembrance all while bringing a social issue to light... This is What Cries Out.

The Devil You Know

Jul 1st, 2025 6:00 AM

Send us a text     There’s an old saying: "Better the devil you know than the devil you don't."It’s a fitting lens for this episode because sometimes, even when something is terrible, it's familiar. Today, we’re going to examine two cases with a chilling common thread: domestic violence that didn’t just leave bruises or broken bones but left behind permanent, life-altering disfigurement. And yet, perhaps even more shocking than the brutality itself... is that the victims, against all odds, took their abusers back.     We'll navigate the tangled web of trauma, hope, fear, and survival and in doing so, perhaps offer strength, courage, and a voice to those still trapped in the shadows of abuse. The Murder of Kaiya Campbell

Jun 1st, 2025 6:00 AM

Send us a text     As Summer approaches, families look forward to road trips and vacations, while children relish the freedom of unstructured days—exploring neighborhoods, breathing in fresh air, and experiencing the timeless rhythm of boredom. These moments are cherished, often reflecting the summers we once had. For 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell, a spirited and strong-willed girl, this was no exception. But what happens when innocence is shattered? When are the trust and purity of childhood violated by someone close? This brings us to a haunting question: Are monsters born, or are they created? In today's episode, we delve into the tragic story of Kiaya Campbell, whose brutal murder challenges us to confront ideas of the complexities of human nature and the factors that contribute to such heinous acts. Enmeshed: The Staudte Murders

May 1st, 2025 6:00 AM

Send us a text     Our case begins with a narcissistic mother, a woman who begins to see her children as burdens instead of sources of love, as the relationship begins to warp with resentment and distance. What begins is a dynamic of manipulation slowly becomes full enmeshment—particularly with one daughter, who starts to mirror the same self-centered behaviors where boundaries blur and the mother’s sense of identity becomes entwined with her daughter’s. The daughter, once seeking validation, begins to internalize her mother's toxic patterns, adopting them as her own, eventually becoming an extension of her mother’s need for control, feeding off the same emotional chaos that once consumed her. Boundaries vanish, and the daughter now wraps her mother’s narcissism around herself, a twisted bond where the lines between love and control fade, and whether she is merely an object to fill the emptiness in her mother’s life.
