FIRST Sunday  LENT                                                      READING 1 Genesis 2.7-9, 3.1           GOSPEL  Matt 4.1-11READING 2 Rom 5.12,17-1                                                  In the Genesis story heard today the ancient writers have provided us with material for meditation on the timeless questions of sin, rebellion, salvation and the unique nature of humanity  being created in the image of God.            In the Gospel Matthew allows us  to struggle with Jesus so that we all learn the truth. There are three parts to this ,‘one on one combat', like a martial arts black belt contest between skilled opponents.
