What black magic is this?

Feb 10th, 2026 1:15 PM

There are some parenting ideas you hear about and immediately think: Absolutely not. That will never work on my kid.For me, that was the 'ok to wake' clock.During a brutal stretch of early mornings, nap transitions and general sleep chaos, I finally gave it a go, fully expecting it to fail.Instead, it worked. And quickly. In this episode, I talk about introducing the green light, accidentally terrifying my child, laying the praise on thick and the moment I realised she was standing in her cot, patiently waiting for it to turn green. There’s also a cautionary tale about fiddling with apps at 5:45am and the deep satisfaction of watching your kid feel proud of themselves for figuring something out. This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Wangal people, of the Eora Nation. I pay my respects to Elders past and present.EPISODE CREDITS:Host: Rachel CorbettEditing Assistance:LINKS & OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:Click here to submit a question to the showWant to start your own podcast? I'm co-parenting dinner with a robot

Feb 3rd, 2026 1:15 PM

This episode is a PSA for anyone who hates cooking, is bad at it and is tired of pretending they’ll magically get better one day.I talk about how desperation, half a capsicum and a tin of sardines led me to asking ChatGPT what to cook for dinner. And how outsourcing the thinking part of food has genuinely changed my life. This isn’t about becoming a great cook or loving the process. It’s about not eating sad, joyless meals out of exhaustion and reclaiming a bit of mental space when you’re already doing everything else. There’s also anchovy pasta, talking to a robot like it’s a person, feminism via kitchen incompetence and why a boiled egg with steamed veg is not the life I’m aiming for anymore. If you try this and it works, email me your winning recipes coz I’m collecting them. And if you’re enjoying the show, please leave me a little rating or review! This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Wangal people, of the Eora Nation. The TV is on and I'm not mad about it

Jan 27th, 2026 1:15 PM

Can you hear how calm I sound? That’s because the TV is on.After years of avoiding screen time, early-morning wake ups and sheer exhaustion pushed me into a new phase of parenting...the morning movie. And honestly? It’s been one of the nicest shifts we’ve had.In this episode, I talk about: How watching movies together has become a GLORIOUS shared shared ritualWhy I feel very differently about movies versus kids TVWhat it’s been like seeing my daughter’s imagination, storytelling and personality evolve There’s also a very unexpected detour into Frozen... Elsa’s emotional avoidance, Anna’s deeply under-celebrated resilience and why I suddenly have strong opinions about Disney merch. If you’ve ever changed your mind about something you swore you’d never do, or found something genuinely good hiding inside a survival decision, this one’s for you.And if you've got a great kids movie recommendation (or thoughts on Frozen) send them my way - rachel@meandmytinyhuman.comIf you’re enjoying the podcast please share it or give it a little rating or review! This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Wangal people, of the Eora Nation. The lies we tell our kids (and the one I can’t get comfy with)

Jan 20th, 2026 1:15 PM

Last year there were about 700 separate occasions where I told my daughter the plug in the bath was broken. It wasn't, I was just racing through bedtime and needed the day to end. And sometimes a bath takes too long. That one lie, however, has now turned into a daily question: "Is the plug working today?" And it got me thinking about all the things parents say just to get through the day... the “TV needs to recharge,” the ice cream truck “ran out," the shopping centre rides are “broken.”All of the necessary fibs that help you get a tiny moment of peace. But there’s one lie I still can’t get my head around and it’s the big one. Santa. In this episode, I share some of the best (and darkest) parenting lies sent in by listeners and talk about why the Santa thing hits differently for me when it comes to trust, honesty and the stories we tell our kids over and over again. If you’ve got a lie you swear by, I'd love to hear it at rachel@meandmytinyhuman.com.And if you’re enjoying the podcast please share it with someone or leave a rating or review. This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Wangal people, of the Eora Nation. The days when you want to walk out of your own life

Jan 13th, 2026 1:15 PM

Things get a little dark today. Not because anything terrible has happened, but because I want to talk honestly about what it feels like when you’re running on empty and there’s no tap-out option. After a brutal stretch of broken sleep, early wake-ups and trying to keep everything together at work and at home, I hit a point where my internal pressure cooker was well and truly at capacity. This episode is about:What happens when you’re so exhausted you start thinking about blowing up your entire lifeWhy solo parenting can feel particularly relentless when there’s no relief valveThe moment you realise doing everything means something else has to giveAnd why this year, for me, has to be about doing less - not quitting, just being smarterNo tips. No solutions. Just honesty, perspective and a reminder that feeling stretched doesn’t mean you’re failing. If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t keep going like this,” this one’s for you. This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Wangal people, of the Eora Nation. I pay my respects to Elders past and present.EPISODE CREDITS:Host: Rachel CorbettEditing Assistance: LINKS & OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:Click here to submit a question to the showWant to start your own podcast?
