The Laru Beya Collective is an organization born in Rockaway created by Rockaway locals, which serves to empower Rockaway's underrepresented youth through surfing. On this episode of Swell Season, contributing co-host Karen Song talks with the Laru Beya Collective founders, Aydon Gabourel and Warren Samson—cousins with Garifuna roots from Belize—on their goal to not only nurture great surfers by envisioning and enacting a 360 degree approach to surf education to their youth, but utilizing it as a means of fostering conscientious world citizens and future leaders.
