King Charles III to address joint session of Congress: A reflection on monarchy and human flourishing

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived yesterday in Washington, DC, where the king will address both houses of Congress today. The first visit of a reigning monarch to the US was similarly pragmatic, hoping positive coverage of the 1939 royal tour would win support for an Anglo-American alliance against Nazi Germany. Now commentators are watching to see if King Charles and President Trump can repair the relationship between the two nations damaged by differences over the war with Iran. While Americans do not serve an earthly king, we can use the visit of a foreign ruler to reflect on the need for a king of our hearts today.
