It is the distant future of 2022 A.D. Technology has advanced to the point where fully immersive virtual reality experiences are not only possible, but readily available to the average consumer. In November of 2022, the newest video game sensation, Sword Art Online, has just released and has taken Japan by storm. Thousands line up on launch day to play this immersive massively multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG).

The wildest part? Not even a single critic has acclaimed this game. The second wildest part? Following its first few hours, the initial 10,000 people logged into the game suddenly are unable to log out for...reasons?
