In the mid-1500s, the great Eurasian stretch that is now modern day Russia was a loose collection of nation states and aristocratic tribes that mostly, it seems, spent their time being mad at each other and hatching plots. Well, in order to get to the present, someone had to unite these people by being extremely mad, and hatching plots basically all the time. That man was named Ivan, and he behaved in such a way that history has officially nicknamed him "the Terrible." Here's why:
