True surrender to God is necessary
Shawn's wife, Helena, asked him what life would look like if he never got porn out of his life. She then asked what life could look like if he did. Thinking about these questions hit Shawn on a soul level and led him to get on his knees and surrender to God. This was the start of him engaging in the fight in a new way every day and having spirit-led conversations with Helena about his struggle, rather than hiding in his shame and guilt.
'Trying' to quit porn is keeping many people stuck in their secret habit
Shawn realized he had been doing a lot of recovery 'stuff,' but finally just said to God, "I am open. I will follow you from now on." He started learning what it looked like to experience God's strength in his weakness and to follow God in freedom rather than trying to quit porn in his own strength.
Porn can cause erectile dysfunction
Before Shawn gave his life to Jesus, he was sexually active with an attractive girlfriend. He started losing his erections and was embarrassed at this reality. His girlfriend thought it was her fault and he didn't know what to say. He realized in time that this was due to his porn use. His brain's neurochemistry was altered to the point of only getting aroused by pixels on a screen. This carried into his marriage and lasted for eight years before things got back to normal.
Know your sexual template
We all have thoughts that run through our minds when we hear the word 'sex' or engage in sexual activity. They point to beliefs we have that often go unspoken. Shawn has a course for singles or couples to go through that helps identify core beliefs about sex. This helps us understand ourselves, our partners, and walk in the freedom from shame that God wants us to experience.
