Kathryn Currey is an amateur show jumper who recently achieved a career highlight when she won the 1.10-meter amateur jumper class at the Hampton Classic Horse Show beating a field of 70. Her partner was a seven year old chestnut mare that she bought off the track for the pricey sum of $400 and who not only can jump but also he has the 1992 Kentucky Derby winner, Lil E. Tee in her breeding so she will have a third career as a brood mare when she retires from the jumper ring. It’s a fairly tale story for the Tennessee mother of two who believes in establishing thorough ground work to bring out a horse’s true potential taking all the time they need. Chris Stafford spoke to Kathryn who has been enjoying the attention that her mare has received with the recent success.
