Today we process a scene from the movie The Longest Yard. We look at masculinity with Chris Rock, finding out he has a low violence rating (half a star) out of 5. In this, they make fun of him and bully him about not being the scariest individual. We process how masculinity is tied to violence and how men evaluate toughness through the lens. Secondly, we process a scene where racist things are said to Nelly's charter and how hard it must have been not to fight or react at that moment. We process how this is normal for some folks, and emotional regulation is critical so as not to blow up and face those repercussions as a black or brown man.
