There are many forms of intimacy
When we talk about 'being intimate,' we are usually talking sex, however, there are several different forms of intimacy. Building a relationship with sex as the foundation is not going to go well when we ignore the other kinds of intimacy needed to build a marriage. When God said that we will leave our parents and 'cleave' to our spouses as two become one, He was referring to becoming one in all ways. Financial intimacy, relational, emotional, recreational, sexual, spiritual, and others are some of the kinds of intimacy talked about in this episode.
Sex Benefits From Other Intimacy
When we build our marriages with intimacy in areas like spirituality, finances, recreation, and others, it creates a spiritual and emotional bond that amplifies the enjoyment we can experience in sex. When we have sex at times that we aren't as connected in other areas, it becomes more disconnected and dissatisfying.
Conflict Is An Opportunity
Conflict creates an opportunity for intimacy. As uncomfortable as conflict is, it is inevitable and necessary. It forces us to choose humility if we are going to grow and build intimacy in various areas of our relationship. Porn use indicates an intimacy disorder, so looking at all areas of intimacy in our marriage to see where we need to grow will enable us to open up to our spouses more than we have before. Creating intimacy in this way will diminish our cravings for sin and position us for God to work in and through us in a big way
