In this funny and painful retelling, a tide of evangelical Christianity sweeps over Alice’s working class family, convincing her parents that God has called them to a life of voluntary poverty. Now, years later in Los Angeles, she sits down with Ross and Carrie to talk about purity culture, revival “miracles,” and the psychological burdens of writing a memoir.
